Mixed Conditionals

Condicionales mixtos: mezclar tiempos en si clauses

Los condicionales son como if/else statements en código. Normalmente ambos bloques (if y resultado) están en el mismo 'scope temporal': pasado-pasado, presente-presente, futuro-futuro. Los mixed conditionals son como un crossover: el bloque if está en un tiempo diferente del bloque resultado.

Hay dos combinaciones principales: (1) PASADO en la condición + PRESENTE en el resultado — algo del pasado que afecta el ahora. Es como un bug que committedaste hace tiempo y ahora afecta tu producción. (2) PASADO en la condición + FUTURO en el resultado — una situación hipotética del pasado que abriría un camino diferente ahora.

El patrón más común es: If + PAST PERFECT, would + verb (base). Esto es como programar un escenario alternativo: 'Si hubiera estudiado medicina (pasado), sería doctor (presente)'. El pasado define un resultado presente que no existe.

  (Presente → Pasado: una condición presente afectó el pasado)
