Relative Clauses
Cláusulas relativas: who, which, that, where, whose
Las relative clauses son como referencias o pointers en código. En vez de crear una nueva oración para añadir información, apuntas al sustantivo anterior usando un 'relativo' (who, which, that, where, whose). Es como hacer un forward declaration en C.
Cada relativo tiene su caso de uso: WHO para personas, WHICH para cosas/animales, THAT para ambos, WHERE para lugares, WHOSE para posesión. Es como un type system: cada relativo acepta ciertos 'tipos' de sustantivos.
Las relative clauses pueden ser RESTRICTIVAS (sin comas, esenciales para identificar el sustantivo) o NON-RESTRICTIVAS (con comas, información extra). Es como si las restricciones fueran required fields y las no restrictivas fueran optional metadata.
SUSTANTIVO + RELATIVO + ORACIÓN RELATIVA WHO → personas: The man who called is my boss. WHICH → cosas: The book which I read was great. THAT → ambos: The movie that we watched was long. WHERE → lugares: The city where I live is big. WHOSE → posesión: The girl whose dog barked is my neighbor. Restrictiva (sin comas): The student who studies hard passes. Non-restrictiva (coma): My brother, who lives in Madrid, is a doctor.
