Present Continuous for Future

Planes y citas ya acordadas

En inglés el Present Continuous no solo habla del presente — también se usa para hablar del FUTURO cuando se trata de planes o arreglos concretos ya confirmados. 'I'm meeting Sara tomorrow' no significa que ahora mismo te estás reuniendo con Sara, sino que ya tienes esa cita acordada. Este doble uso confunde mucho a los hispanohablantes porque en español no hacemos esa distinción con el gerundio.

La clave para saber si es futuro: ¿hay un marcador temporal? Si ves 'tomorrow', 'next week', 'on Friday', 'at 6 pm', etc., casi con certeza es un plan futuro, no una acción en progreso ahora. Los hispanohablantes suelen traducir mecánicamente y pierden este matiz.

Este uso es diferente de 'going to' y de 'will'. El Present Continuous for Future implica un ARREGLO CONCRETO — alguien más sabe del plan, hay reserva, hay cita. 'I'm having dinner with my boss tonight' suena más firme que 'I'm going to have dinner with my boss', que puede ser solo una intención. 'Will' es para decisiones espontáneas o predicciones, no para arreglos.

Para negaciones y preguntas, la mecánica es idéntica al Present Continuous normal: el verbo BE se desplaza o añade NOT. No uses 'did' ni 'will' aquí.
