El verbo be en afirmativo: am / is / are
El verbo 'be' es el verbo más fundamental del inglés. A diferencia del español, donde el verbo 'ser/estar' se conjuga con el sujeto, en inglés 'be' tiene tres formas en presente afirmativo: am (solo para I), is (para he, she, it) y are (para you, we, they). Es el único verbo que no usa DO para preguntas ni negaciones.
Un error frecuente de los hispanohablantes es omitir el verbo be porque en español a veces se omite: 'She tired' es incorrecto en inglés. SIEMPRE debes incluirlo: 'She is tired'. El verbo be no se puede suprimir nunca.
Las contracciones son muy comunes en el habla informal: I am → I'm, you are → you're, he is → he's, she is → she's, it is → it's, we are → we're, they are → they're. En escritura formal se prefiere la forma completa.
Otro error típico es usar be antes de verbos de acción: 'I am play football' es incorrecto. El verbo be afirmativo se usa con adjetivos ('She is happy'), sustantivos ('He is a doctor'), profesiones, edades, nacionalidades y ubicaciones, nunca para introducir otro verbo en presente simple.
La edad en inglés se expresa con be, no con 'have' como en español: 'I am 25 years old' (no 'I have 25 years'). Igualmente las profesiones: 'She is a nurse' y las nacionalidades: 'They are Mexican'.
