Complex Passive & Reporting Structures
Fórmulas como 'It is widely believed that...' o 'He is thought to be...' son el sello del registro periodístico, científico y académico.
Hay dos patrones principales. El primero es la pasiva impersonal con 'it': 'It is said/believed/thought/reported/claimed that + cláusula'.
Un infinitivo simple ('is thought to live') indica simultaneidad o estado presente; un infinitivo perfecto ('is thought to have lived') indica anterioridad respecto al reporte; y un infinitivo continuo ('is thought to be living') indica una acción en progreso.
El recurso también se combina con verbos catenativos y modales: 'is expected to have finished', 'is likely to have been affected', 'was rumoured to have been seen'.
El científico escribe 'The results are believed to be significant' en vez de 'I believe the results are significant' porque la ciencia se presenta como impersonal. El periodista escribe 'The suspect is alleged to have fled' por cautela legal.
