Possessive Adjectives
my, your, his, her, its, our, their
Los adjetivos posesivos en inglés son como propiedades (properties) de un objeto: indican a quién pertenece algo. Son cualificadores que se colocan antes del sustantivo, como un decorador que añade metadatos de propiedad a una variable.
Cada pronombre personal tiene su correspondiente posesivo: I → my, you → your, he → his, she → her, it → its, we → our, they → their. Es un mapeo uno a uno, como un objeto de configuración donde cada clave tiene su valor.
El error más común es confundir his (posesivo) con he (sujeto) y her (posesivo) con she (sujeto). Recuerda: his es 'de él', her es 'de ella'. Son modificadores, no sujetos. No puedes decir 'Her is tall' — eso es un error de tipo, como intentar usar un string donde se espera un número.
Los posesivos van SIEMPRE antes del sustantivo: my book (no book my). Es el único lugar donde pueden ir.
No confundas 'its' (posesivo) con 'it's' (abreviatura de it is). 'The dog wagged its tail' vs 'It's raining'. Son palabras completamente diferentes.
Su (de ellos/ellas) se traduce como their (plural) o his/her (singular). Depende de a quién pertenece.
En respuestas cortas: Whose is this? — It's my book. / It's hers. El posesivo puede usarse solo sin sustantivo.
Los posesivos no llevan artículo antes: 'This is my book' (no 'This is a my book').
En estructuras compuestas: My brother and I live here. (no Me and my brother's house).
Los posesivos se usan para partes del cuerpo: She raised her hand. (no She raised the hand.)
Con familiares: My mother is a teacher. (no The mother of me is a teacher.)
Los posesivos no se usan con nombres propios: This is John's book. (no This is his John book.)
POSSESIVO + SUSTANTIVO my + noun → This is my book. your + noun → That is your car. his + noun → The red one is his phone. her + noun → The cat is her pet. its + noun → The dog wagged its tail. our + noun → This is our house. their + noun → The kids are their students. REGLA: El posesivo va SIEMPRE antes del sustantivo.
